CAT A Refurbishment – Building Services
35 Newhall Street is located in the heart of Birmingham’s business district and has undergone a comprehensive and full CAT A refurbishment, with sustainability, quality and high standards of finish at the forefront of the design and project requirements.
PJ BIRD were contracted to design, deliver and commission Public Health services associated with the refurbishment, providing a complete and coordinated installation throughout the building.
Scope of Works
PJ BIRD delivered the following building services:
- Above-ground drainage: Installation of new above-ground drainage systems throughout the building to serve the refurbished sanitary facilities.
- Cold water storage: Installation of new cold water storage tanks providing the required supply to the building’s booster systems.
- CAT 5 boosted cold water services: Installation of CAT 5 booster sets where required to provide ccompliance with water regulations and by laws
- Leak detection: Complete building-wide water leak detection systems, providing monitoring and early identification of potential water leaks.
- Domestic hot water: Local point-of-use (POU) unvented water heaters & instantaneous water heaters providing domestic hot water to the required outlets.
- Sanitaryware: Full sanitaryware installation, including associated water and drainage connections to 6.no floors of core WC’s and 1.no. basement shower facility
- To provide full BREEAM Compliance
Design, Delivery & Commissioning
PJ BIRD’s scope incorporated the design, installation and commissioning of Public health systems and services, ensuring that the systems were fully coordinated with the refurbishment works and the building’s architectural requirements.
Particular consideration was given to the requirements of a high-quality commercial refurbishment, with the installation designed to support the building’s sustainability objectives while maintaining reliability, ease of maintenance and a high standard of finish.
Sustainability & BREEAM Compliance
PJ BIRD worked closely with the project team to ensure the mechanical services installation supported the development’s sustainability objectives and full BREEAM compliance. Particular consideration was given to water efficiency, leak detection, efficient domestic hot water provision and the overall performance of the installed systems.
