Project Description:
Hills Ford successfully acquired an empty warehouse unit in Worcester, which required a complete refurbishment and change of use to create a modern Ford dealership and fully equipped technical workshop.
With no existing mechanical systems or services in place, we were contracted to deliver a complete mechanical services installation, providing the dealership with modern, efficient and fully integrated heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and gas systems.
The completed transformation produced fantastic results, creating a high-quality environment for customers, staff and workshop operations.
VRV Heating & Comfort Cooling Air Conditioning
We designed and installed a complete Daikin VRV heat recovery heating and comfort cooling system throughout the dealership.
The system provides efficient year-round temperature control, with the flexibility to simultaneously heat and cool different areas of the building as required.
The installation was integrated with a Daikin iTouch Manager, providing centralised monitoring and control of the air conditioning system.
The VRV system was also interlocked with the building fire alarm system, ensuring the mechanical systems respond appropriately in the event of a fire alarm activation.
Ventilation Systems
A comprehensive ventilation installation was provided to ensure suitable indoor air quality and effective extraction throughout the building.
Works included:
- 2 no. heat recovery ventilation systems, fully controlled and addressed via the Daikin iTouch Manager.
- Interlocking of ventilation systems with the building fire alarm system.
- Dirty extract ventilation systems serving all WC facilities.
- Dedicated extract ventilation systems serving tea points.
Plumbing & Public Health
As part of the complete mechanical services package, we installed new public health and plumbing systems throughout the building.
The works included:
- New above-ground drainage (AGD) installations.
- New domestic water and plumbing services.
- 6.no. POU unvented water heaters
- Supply and installation of sanitaryware.
- Plumbing installations serving WC facilities and tea points.
- Commissioning including disinfection of domestic water services and post work water analysis report
Technical Workshop
A completely new technical workshop was incorporated into the refurbishment, requiring dedicated heating and natural gas services suitable for the working environment.
We installed 8 no. radiant tube heaters to provide effective and consistent heating throughout the workshop, complemented by 6 no. destratification fans. The fans help redistribute warm air that naturally rises within the workshop, improving heat distribution and reducing heat loss at high level. This combination enhanced the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the workshop heating system.
New 50mm natural gas distribution pipework was installed for connection to the workshop heating, incorporating a gas safety solenoid valve.
The gas safety system was fully interfaced with the building fire alarm system, providing an additional level of safety by ensuring the gas supply can be automatically isolated in the event of a fire alarm activation.
Project Outcome
Working from a completely blank canvas with no existing mechanical services, we successfully delivered a comprehensive mechanical installation supporting the building’s new use as a modern Ford dealership and technical workshop.
The project brought together heating, comfort cooling, heat recovery ventilation, extraction, plumbing, drainage and gas services, all integrated with the building’s fire alarm and control systems.
The result was a fully operational, modern and comfortable Ford dealership, with robust mechanical services designed to meet the demands of both the customer-facing areas and the technical workshop.
